Meet Doris Deku, a remarkable woman who has overcome obstacles and improved her life through perseverance, drive, and a love of what she does. Doris struggled mightily as a single mother, but she didn’t allow those difficulties to determine whom she would become.
After tragically losing her parents and ending her education in Junior High School, Doris found herself in a difficult situation. However, she refused to give up and decided to delve into trading as a means of supporting herself and her child. It was during this time that she witnessed a gentleman engaged in tiling work, and something sparked within her.
Doris took advantage of every chance that came her way since she was fascinated and motivated by the craft of tiling. She applied to learn with the renowned NGO Yiedie, where she developed her talents and earned a National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Certificate. This was the start of her amazing career as an artisan.
Today, Doris proudly serves as the CEO of Ansadee Ventures, a thriving business she established to showcase her expertise in the tiling industry. Under her visionary leadership, Ansadee Ventures has flourished, employing seven dedicated workers, including five talented women. Additionally, Doris is committed to empowering others and currently mentors nine enthusiastic trainees who aspire to follow in her footsteps.
Their outstanding accomplishments of Doris have not gone unnoticed. The Artisan Association of Ghana awarded her the coveted title of Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020 in recognition of her exceptional business acumen and achievements in the sector. She was recognized as the Most Inspiring Artisan of the Year by the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry the following year, further establishing her status as a role model in the artisan community. She received the Shining Star of the Year award from Homebuild Africa in 2022 in recognition of her outstanding success and motivational journey.
The effect of Doris goes beyond her projects. She enthusiastically promotes the rights and respect of craftsmen throughout the nation as the brand ambassador for the Artisan Association of Ghana. She is also a proud member of the Ghana Institute of Engineers, a sign of her dedication to professionalism and ongoing advancement in her industry.
Doris Deku’s story is one of resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit. She has overcome numerous obstacles to forging her path, defying societal expectations, and proving that one’s circumstances do not determine their potential. Through her exceptional skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to empowering others, Doris continues to inspire and uplift those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the artisan industry and beyond.
